On 1st March 2014, Mr. Milind Deora launched emergency medical services in Mumbai. Mr. Deora inaugurated 970 state-of-the-art ambulances for Mumbai & Maharashtra. 75% of the services are funded by GoI & 25% by GoM. Mumbai’s Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan was also present on this occasion.

The inauguration took place at Marine Drive near the Police Gymkhana. With the help of this service citizens will be able to dial 108 in case of an emergency to call for a free ambulance service. The state will deploy 937 ambulances across the state for the purpose. Of these 233 are advanced life support ambulances. Every ambulance will be equipped with a doctor and Para-medic staff. In urban areas the ambulance will be available at the accident spot within 20 minutes while in rural areas it will reach within 30 minutes. In Mumbai, 70 ambulances will be deployed immediately.
