Keeping an eye on health and wellness
Free eye check-up camps are organized in association with non-profit organizations in South Mumbai. These free eye camps are organized every year for poor patients. 83 such Eye camps have been completed across the South Mumbai constituency with an average attendance in recent years of about 3000 people. The last eye camp was held at an aided school near Parel.
Most of the people who attend the eye camp are of varying age groups and residents of South Mumbai. Ms. Hirabai (79) put in the effort to attend the eye camp along with her daughter who works as a housemaid in Tardeo. “My vision is now very weak and I can’t see anything beyond two feet clearly. I was told to visit the Bombay City Eye Institute as I may have to undergo a cataract operation,” she said. These cataract operations are undertaken free of cost.
Spectacles and medicines, if required, are distributed to most of the underprivileged for free after their eyes are checked.
